Visit Gatlinburg for Spring Break

It has been awhile since I have written a blog that gives you an inside look on us on a more personal level.  Only a few months ago it seems I was sharing with you recipes we enjoyed all the way to some of our favorite traditions around holidays.  I want to share with you our single most favorite vacation spot.  This particular vacation spot is so well liked by our family that last year we went 7 times.  The place: Gatlinburg, TN.  http://www.gatlinburg.com/  Now, being from the Cincinnati area, or anywhere from Ohio, most people have either heard of Gatlinburg, driven through it, or have visited it.  Now, besides being a great place for tourists with kids, Gatlinburg is known for being a great destination for marriages and honeymoons.  I haven’t been down there one time when I haven’t seen a marriage or someone with “just married” written on their car.

This place is so special and means so much to my family for many different reasons.  Scot and Rhonda Reedy (president and owner of Paradise Graphix) not only fell in love in Gatlinburg, they got married in Gatlinburg after only 1 month of dating.  Because this place, for obvious reasons, is so special to them; it became a place that they wanted to share with their family as they grew older.  We didn’t always go 7 times in one year; but with the growth of our company, we have been adding trips to our schedule more every year.

Now that you know the story behind why it is so loved by our family, I want to share with you some of our favorite things to do in Gatlinburg. Our favorite place to stay is the Park Vista (http://doubletree1.hilton.com/en_US/dt/hotel/GKTPVDT-The-Park-Vista-a-DoubleTree-by-Hilton-Hotel-Gatlinburg-Tennessee/index.do)   although it is not right on the strip; it has a beautiful view of the mountains that is absolutely stunning in the morning.  Also, it is a very kid friendly hotel; the pool room has a slide and a kiddie-pool to die for.  When you are not spending time at the hotel… Gatlinburg is full of sites to see.  The strip is full of stores and places with great food.  My personal favorite place to eat is Dick’s Last Resort.  Although it isn’t the most kid friendly restaurant… it is really interesting or fun… Especially for a group of kids that are going for spring break.  The food is great, the activities are great…. Now let’s talk about the mountains.  Gatlinburg is located right in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains.  A short drive into the national park provides any visitor with a day full of activities.  The park is full of walking trails and even driving trails.  The whole park is beautiful and a great place to see wildlife.  Two cities outside of Gatlinburg (Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville) are also great places to visit/stay if you are thinking about visiting Gatlinburg.   While these are just some of the few great things about visiting Gatlinburg; I really recommend that you see for yourself.  If you are looking for somewhere to take your kids over spring break, Gatlinburg is the place.
