Ricky Gervais and the Golden Globes 2012
Hollywood’s most famous stars are biting their nails today anticipating tonight’s golden globe awards. The anticipation however isn’t only from the excitement of who will win what award. A lot of the stars are nervous because Ricky Gervais will be hosting tonight’s awards. Ricky Gervais is best known for his comedy style of taking jabs at fellow actors. While some enjoy his humor and realize that he probably doesn’t mean everything he says, some do take it extremely serious.
Last year after hosting the Golden Globes; Ricky was told that he would never be asked back; and even further he was banned from the Oscars as well. The only problem with excluding Ricky was that more people watched when he hosted than ever before. He was since asked back, and even asked to host again. Most of the people that he poked fun at were people he is actually friends with; and they didn’t mind at all, in fact, many called him and were good sports about the whole thing.
When asked if he was nervous about hosting he answered: "I end my career once a week if you read the press. I do things that could end my career now. That's my extreme sport. If you get fun with it, which I do and I demand, and you get your own way and are happy with what you've done, then nothing can happen to you. You're bulletproof. Everything I say, I can justify it, I can stand by it, as I do every joke I did last year, then I don't care. I don't care if you're offended."
He will most certainly have plenty of jokes tonight. All of us onlookers are excited to see who he will poke fun at this year. It adds an extra kick to the Golden Globe Awards; and I believe he is brilliant.
