Christmas Collections and Traditions

There are only 12 days till Christmas and everyone is in a hurry to take care of last minute plans and surprises.  Christmas traditions are so interesting to me; mainly because they are so different from family to family.  Tradition is defined as the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way. Tradition defined in my own words is the activities that you do from year to year with your family because they hold memories and in general make you feel good.  Some families watch the same holiday movies every year; some eat the same meals; or visit the same places; some even have the same parties yearly.  One of the most important parts of tradition in our families is the collections we add to each year.

In our family each of us seems to have our own Christmas themed collection.  Scot has a Christmas tree filled with Hallmark Auto Ornaments.  We have a tree filled with only ornaments that are related to Gatlinburg (our favorite place to vacation.) I personally have a collection of snow globes.  My grandma buys me one every year for Christmas.  My mom has a collection of tree toppers. Every year we get the Mary’s Angel ornament for my grandma.  Those presents that we get mean more to us than any of the other ones under the tree.  These collections are something that we will remember and can look at for years to come.

The reason all of this came to my mind is because the other day I was watching this show about the most expensive Christmas trees in the world.  They featured a tree of nothing but Christopher Radko ornaments (over $200,000 worth) It is at the Historic Brunswick Manor.  (http://www.brunswickmanor.com/) The owner (who also owns the Historic Brunswick Manor)  has collected them over the years.  He said it is devastating if he loses or breaks one because the collection means so much to him.  That is the way we feel about ours; no matter what the price is, it is still special to us.  I think that every family should share some kind of a tradition no matter what the size of the family.  Share with us some of your holiday traditions in comments below.

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
