If you have followed our blog in the past; then you will know that I am not afraid to express my opinion on the problems in our industry. I feel like it is my job to tell our current and potential customers what they can expect when it comes to the competition.
My first and largest complaint is the problem many have in this industry with stealing other’s work. While we have both had our work stolen and used as advertising for other companies; we have also seen competitors in our industry use others work. How can we tell? It is quite simple. If you go to a wrap company’s website; and all of the wraps that they claim to be theirs have different out of state area codes; it’s usually a pretty good indicator that they stole other companies work. All it takes is a simple call to the company pictured and they will tell you (usually proudly) who did their wrap. If it isn’t the company’s page who you found it on; then it’s stolen! This isn’t just a problem in our industry; but with all art-related industries. Our friends in the tattoo industry go through the same thing!
I first started noticing that this was an issue when I started to see the picture of the transit wrap above (the snake wrapped around the bus) popping up on almost every wrap company’s website and Facebook page. Now with a wrap like that; I doubt it’s hurting that company’s business to have their work stolen (as they are a huge company in Europe,) however in our area; it can and will hurt your business if people think the work that you completed was done by your competition.
Another thing you may want to watch out for is a company who is using their proofs, instead of actual pictures on their website. This means they are showing you nothing but perfect versions of the wraps they design; this gives you no actual idea of what it looks like on the vehicle. A poorly executed install is just as bad as a poorly designed wrap.
One last thing that bothers me are companies who try to claim that they are “the best in the tri-state” when they have only been in business for 2 months. The wrap process takes blood, sweat, and years to perfect! When shopping around for a wrap; please check the business operation dates! Choose a reputable company who knows what they are doing!
Don’t waste your time on a company who lies, cheats, and steals to earn your business! I won’t name names; but please look out for yourself! Don’t let companies that participate in these actions take advantage of you or your business!
